For this course, Intro to New Media Technologies, I was required to submit an ePortfolio showcasing my identity and my coursework. Since I already had an existing ePortfolio for professional purposes, I chose to edit it to fit the requirements of the assignment.
Most of what was required was already set up on my site – a homepage and short bio, tabs for About Me, projects, my resume, a blog, and a contact page. I recently updated my resume page as per the requirements for the Mellon Foundation Humanities Internship Stipend I received in the previous fall semester, so it contains all my work experience and that which I acquired at my internship with ODU’s Office of Counseling Services. I also added some highlights from my work there to the Projects tab so future employers can see what I am capable of.
The main things I needed to adjust were creating this introductory post and adding a Media Curation assignment to the Blog tab. The ePortfolio requirement asked us to add our ODU emails for contact, but since I used this page when I was out of school, my ODU email was defunct. Therefore, I’ve left my professional email intact, but any potential employer looking to reach me can also find my information on my resume and application.
I look forward to having engaging discussions about new media technology in this class, and I fully expect many of the conversations to revolve around AI, considering it’s the hot topic in technology right now. I also look forward to having my understanding of technology challenged and refined. While I love technology and have grown up with the Internet as a tool and a virtual community space, so much so that picking up new tech feels like second nature, I also recognize the dangers technology poses. It is my hope this class will instill in me some appreciation and better understanding of technology, despite my cynicism.
